What to do with my hair

Hey, I just got a haircut a few days ago and not really sure if it suits me. What type of cut would look best on me

#1, if not less. Might want to try less exaggerated edges, too.

You should look at not just your hair, but your face shape to help pick the best style for you.  Given that your face/head is longer than it is wide, you fall into the Oblong face shape category.

Generally people with oblong faces have a high forehead but narrow chin with straight (almost the same width) forehead, cheekbones and jaw line.  Needless to say you kinda fit the description.  The key for a good men?s haircut is to recognize the shape you are working with, then work with hairstyles that work with that shape.

Men?s Hairstyle Option #1:

One problem you may have is not just the face shape, but the umm?.*cough* receding hairline.  I?m just joking, having a little more forehead showing is not a showstopper, but it is a feature you want to understand how to work with.  One standard response for oblong faces is to make the hair fuller up top to balance (faux hawks and such).  You don?t have that option.  So short is one way to make your face work.

Men?s Hairstyle Option #2:

Something you may want to consider is a facial hair.  Since oblong face shapes tend to be tend to be quite slender and angular, a beard is one facial hair style that can balance your features out by visually shortening the length of your face while creating the illusion that your face is more oval.  Think a The 24/7 5-o?clock shadow.  Let?s steal shamelessly from Mr. Tom Ford, one of fashion?s leading men and grow a slightly scruffy beard to change the appearance of your face as well as conceal your not-so-favorite facial features.

You can see that this guy has a very long face as well as a slightly receding hairline, but when he is sporting a respectable amount of facial hair, his face seems less angular and his hairline less noticeable. All in all, it?s a very distinguished look. Copying his style won?t take too much effort on your part, either. Simply let your facial hair grow out for about a week or so, depending on how fast your hair grows, and then shave every few days to maintain a cleaner shape.

Something I would consider is the hairline they brought up around your ears.  Unless that is your natural hairline, I would stay away bring up the edge that high.  Some barbers (old school or newbies usually) will cut a high arch into your hairline.  Bring the edge up that high gives you a bit of an unnatural "white wall" look.  In addition, it makes it harder to maintain a high arch vs simply following your natural hairline.

Thanks, I appreciate the post. That's actually my natural hairline around the ears, it's always been a bit odd. Any advice on what to do there?
